Special Needs
Liberty Ascent
To provide children and adults with special needs a welcoming environment to grow in their faith.
Liberty Ascent works to provide a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for children and adults with disabilities to learn and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. Our trained volunteers help teach and engage students in the Word through bible lessons, arts and crafts, and music.
We provide a private bathroom with sensory toys, a calm down space, and other accommodations that students might need. Our Life Group Leaders and one-on-one sidekicks help create an inclusive environment for our students where everyone feels welcome.
Our sidekick ministry strives to stand in the gap for students needing accommodations during Wednesday night & Sunday programming. Families can request buddies based on their child’s individual needs and our Ascent program works hard to provide them with a buddy to help them succeed.
All students will have an individualized profile so that our leaders can serve your student to the best of their ability.
Roles
- Life Group Leader - a Life Group Leader is someone who has experience working with the special needs community and can assist room leaders until they are confident to lead on their own. Life Group Leader can help with curriculum and planning
- Sidekick - Sidekicks exist to help students with varying levels of need participate in programming for their age group. Sidekicks are matched to students based on their individual needs. Sidekicks need to be able to confidently keep up with students and help them engage with their peers. This role requires an interview with ministry leader, Ministry Safe certification as well as a background check. Someone considering this area of service needs to be able to physically assist students. Highschool students can serve their peers or once a month if the student is not a peer.
Your child's application for a sidekick is a two step process. Their application will be reviewed based on their needs and our capabilities as a ministry and a follow up interview with a ministry leader and Ascent leader will be conducted to see how if and how we are able to best serve. We are currently able to provide Sidekicks for one hour on Sunday. Then could you add to the application part - If your child is school aged, please describe your child's classroom setting.
If you are interested in your child's participation, please fill out the application below.
